Who you are dealing with

We actually live here

I grew up in Midland. My family is here now — my children are being raised in this town, and the people I do business with are people I run into at the grocery store.

That is not a small thing in this business. Most of the letters landing in mineral owners’ mailboxes come from firms in New York or Dallas who have never set foot on the acreage and will never meet the family selling it. If they treat someone badly, they never hear about it again. We do.

I am not a faceless buyer from somewhere else. This is my home, and I intend to still be doing business here in twenty years. Old Midland Resources

What we buy

We purchase producing and non-producing interests of almost any size. If you receive a royalty check — or inherited an interest and have never received one — it is worth finding out what it is worth.

Mineral interests

Ownership of the minerals beneath a tract, whether currently leased, unleased, or held by production.

Royalty interests

Royalty, overriding royalty (ORRI) and non-participating royalty (NPRI) interests, producing or shut-in.

Inherited & fractional

Small, fractional and inherited interests that larger buyers and brokers routinely decline as too small to bother with.

Why owners sell

There is no single right answer, and plenty of good reasons to keep an interest. The owners who do sell usually tell us one of these:

The checks are small and the paperwork isn’t

A fractional interest can generate a few dollars a month while still requiring division orders, tax reporting, address changes and probate filings for every heir in the chain.

Settling an estate

Minerals are difficult to divide among heirs. A sale converts an indivisible asset into something an estate can actually split.

Concentration and volatility

Royalty income moves with commodity prices and with decisions made by an operator you do not control. Some owners would rather take a certain number now.

A specific need

Taxes, medical costs, a property purchase, or simply consolidating a scattered set of interests into one transaction.

How selling works

  1. You tell us what you own

A recent check stub or division order is usually enough. If you have neither, the county and a legal description will get us started.

  2. We evaluate it

We look at the production history, the operator, the decimal interest and what comparable interests in the area have actually traded for.

  3. You receive a written offer

Plainly stated, with no pressure and no expiration games. You are free to take it to another buyer for comparison — we would rather you be confident than fast.

  4. Closing, if you want it

We prepare the deed, handle the recording with the county, and you are paid. Remote online notarization means you do not need to travel.

Working with a direct buyer

A broker or listing site markets your interest to a pool of buyers and takes a commission out of the proceeds — often a meaningful percentage. We buy for our own account. That means fewer parties, a shorter timeline, and nothing deducted from what we agree to pay you.

If another buyer offers you more and you are comfortable with them, take it. A fair process matters more to us than any single transaction. Old Midland Resources
